Christian Help For Depression and Other Struggles The good news is there is tons of Christian help for depression available for those that struggle not only with depression but other emotional and mental issues as well. Unfortunately, the stigma of having emotional, mental and even relationship struggles is still very prevalent in much of the church. It is not unusual for me to hear something like this from people I meet: "I can't let anyone know about my problem, Christians aren't suppose to struggle like this." Sadly, many Christians continue to languish like the cripple at the pool of Bethesda, only thinking about getting help for their struggles. Instead of getting help, they allow themselves to be deceived by the evil one who taunts, "If your faith was strong enough, you would be able to work out your problems on your own." Where do we get the idea that Christians who struggle with mental and emotional issues are weak or lacking in faith? To Continue reading this article click here. Quotes and Contemplations -- Wisdom for your soul I think, that in heaviness we often learn lessons that we never could attain elsewhere. Do you know that God has beauties for every part of the world; and he has beauties for every place of experience? There are views to be seen from the tops of the Alps that you can never see elsewhere. Ay, but there are beauties to be seen in the depths of the dell that ye could never see on the tops of the mountains; there are glories to be seen on Pisgah, wondrous sights to be beheld when by faith we stand on Tabor; but there are also beauties to be seen in our Gethsemanes. ( Charles H. Spurgeon ) May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May He send help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. (Psalm 20:1-2) Book Works - Healing Anxiety and Depression For this edition of YCCC on Christian Help for Depression and other Struggles, I have just finished reviewing a book called Healing Anxiety and Depression by Daniel G. Amen, MD and Lisa C. Routh, MD. This is a wonderfully encouraging book where the authors outline 7 different types of depression and anxiety as well as the proven and effective treatment plans for each type. What I love about this book is the range of information and education Amen and Routh provide the reader. They include a self-diagnostic test, education about brain functioning and brain health, case studies, effective treatment considerations for each type of anxiety and depression including concrete data concerning natural supplements, diet and medications. If you have suffered from depression and or anxiety this book Healing Anxiety and Depression is a must read. Great Web Resources - Amen Clinics In addition to the many wonderful books Dr. Amen has written about brain health, he has an informative and interactive website. At his site you can find online self-help tests, patient testimonials, pictures of brain scans (SPECT imaging) and more. Win a Book Gift Certificate...
