Much anxiety or panic attacs are caused by out of control worry and not exercising positive control over life circumstances.

First, you must take responsibility for the thoughts that are occupying space in your mind. When we worry, our brain sends distress signals to our nervous system. By learning to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthian 10:5-6) you can significantly reduce anxiety.

In Dr. Archibald Hart's book The Anxiety Cure he sites the Anxiety Disorder Treatment Needs Research Project. In this study the researchers found that the most effective anxiety relieves treatment was "working with my thinking" and "increasing my self-awareness."

Rest and Relaxation - On the Sabbath you shall not do any work...Exodus 20:10

We live in a very fast paced society. The question is did God intend for us to work at the pace that most of us do. Many people are sleep deprived and on top of that get little rest during the day.

Fight Your Fears - For God has not given us a spirit of fear...2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is the root of much anxiety and phobias. Part of therapy for every anxiety issue will be confronting the underlying fears. The fear could be something obvious like a fear of flying or of spiders. Or it could be more discrete, like a fear of loosing the approval of a significant other. Or it could be a fear of failing.

Meditating on the attributes of God can be a very helpful anxiety relieves technique. Additionally real-life desensitization is a very powerful anti-anxiety technique.

More anxiety relieves remedies are found in Philippians 4. In this passage Paul emphasizes the importance of rejoicing, praying and giving thanks. Practicing these things results in the release of happy hormones called endorphins. These will counteract your anxiety as well as depression.

Finally, Paul exhorts us to meditate on things that will bring us peace and stability. He says...

"Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious - the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse." (The Message Translation)

There are many more anxiety relieves remedies available. Natural remedies like exercise, relaxation and breathing techniques are also very beneficial. If you would like more information, you may want to check out The Anxiety Cure.
