Let's take a look at the book of Ruth for these answers...Here we see the story of two Christian singles who find each other.

The story begins with Naomi and Ruth who have become widows. Naomi is in despair and decides to go back home to Bethlehem in Judah. Ruth insists on remaining with Naomi.

She demonstrates the character traits of responsibility, courage, maturity and loyalty in her determination to remain with Naomi. After all, Bethlehem was not her home town, the Jews were not her people...

Tip for Christians dating #1:
Choose to date people who demonstrate godly character traits like loyalty, responsibility and determination during trials.

When they arrive in Bethlehem, Ruth, keeps her promise to Naomi and she goes and finds a job gleaning in a barley field. Gleaning was hard work, the work of very poor people.

But Ruth did not come expecting a handout. She came with a willing heart to work.

Tip for Christians dating #2:
Choose to date people with a strong work ethic. People who do what it takes to provide for themselves.

Now let's take a look at the character traits of Boaz...verses 8-12 in chapter 2 speak volumes about Boaz. Read what Boaz says to Ruth: My daughter, listen to me. Don't go and glean in another field and don't go away from here. Stay here with my servant girls. Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the girls. I have told the men not to touch you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled.

Boaz is the prototype of true masculinity. He protects, provides for and respects Ruth.

It's likely for Ruth that this feels like the beginning of a safe relationship. Christians dating need help with the tough things like finding safe, compatible people. Eharmony can help you do that. They have helped thousands of singles find the love of their life through their comprehensive compatibility profiling system. For more information go to eharmony.com.

Tip for Christians dating #3:
Date people who express their faith in Jesus Christ confidently.

Boaz builds Ruth up. He does not offer empty platitudes or flirtatious remarks that make her feel compromised or uncomfortable. His remarks communicate his respect for Ruth and her priorities.

How does Ruth respond to Boaz's graciousness...

Ruth responds with humility and thankfulness. She is not embarrassed by her needy situation. She is willing to do what it takes and receives Boaz's kindness as the blessing that it is from the Lord.

Most importantly, this relationship will draw her closer to God and affirm her beliefs and her values. Single Christians dating should avoid relationships that compromise their Christian values. Asking yourself this one, very powerful question can help you avoid a lot of heartache:

Tip for Christians dating #4:
Ask yourself "Is this relationship drawing me closer to God or further away from Him?

Throughout the book of Ruth, Boaz expresses great integrity and sensitivity. He offers Ruth grace when she makes mistakes. In healthy relationships people feel safe enough to make mistakes, because the expectation is not perfection.

Now our story begins to heat up a bit. Boaz we find out is Naomi's kinsman. According to Hebrew law the next of kin was responsible for redeeming the dead man's property and widow...

Tip for Christians dating #5:
Ladies l
ook for men who:
R
espect you
Protect you
Unashamedly talk about their faith in God

Naomi considers Boaz for Ruth's husband, not only because he is the kinsman redeemer, but because he is a man of godly character.

In chapter 3, Naomi instructs Ruth in the ways of courtship. She tells her to go down to the threshing floor, where Boaz is working. "When he lies down," she says, "go and uncover his feet and lie down." Ruth answers, "I will do whatever you say."

Tip for Christians dating #6:
Men look for ladies who:
Respect you
N
ever tempt you in a sexual way
Demonstrate their faith in God

In these passages Ruth's character is revealed even more. Ruth is a lady who welcomes the mentoring and wisdom of her mother-in-law...

When Boaz awakes in the middle of the night and sees this woman lying at his feet, he did not take advantage of the situation. As an agent of God, he takes seriously his responsibility to protect Ruth. When Boaz asks "who are you,"...

Tip for Christians dating #7:
Choose to honor God in all you do by setting healthy boundaries for physical contact.

Ruth basically says, "I remember your blessings and your kindnesses to me. I know God has provided in my life through you. So now I am asking you to shelter me as your wife. I am asking you to pledge your faithfulness to me in a covenant of marriage."

It is likely at this moment that both Ruth and Boaz were experiencing a heightened sense of passion. Ruth is looking good. Boaz's secret feelings for Ruth have suddenly been ignited by her words and her actions.

Tip for Christians dating #8:
Exercise s
elf-control as a demonstration of your faithfulness to God and your brotherly love for each other.

We don't know why Naomi told Ruth to go lie at Boaz's feet. But we do know Ruth did not sexually tempt Boaz by snuggling up to him. She lay at a safe place, at his feet. Like Ruth, Christian singles dating need to maintain healthy boundaries.

Their integrity and faithfulness to one another and to God was further demonstrated in their incredible self-control. They were focused on entering into a covenant of faithfulness and righteousness that lasts a lifetime, not just a moment of lustful pleasure.
