In fact, if my good friend, whose discernment and understanding of the scriptures I greatly respect, had not given it to me I probably would not have picked it up. The author is Dr. Myles Munroe and because of some of his close associates, I admit I would have been prejudiced against his teachings. The Lord humbled me and taught me, literally, to not judge a book by it's cover. A Christian leadership book is important in a day and age when the statistics demonstrate that nearly 50% of U.S. workers feel overwhelmed by their jobs. Eighty-eight percent of employees say they have trouble juggling work and life responsibilities. Overall, the majority of employees are dissatisfied with their jobs. Because you were created for a purpose, true satisfaction, vocational and otherwise, will only be found when you come to understand God's purpose for you. What will you find in this recommended best Leadership Book? Proverbs 20:5 says, "The purposes of a man's heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out." Dr. Munroe, through this book, will help you draw out God's purpose and vision for you. Dr. Munroe uses scripture after scripture in appropriate ways to demonstrate the reality that God gives us the desires of our hearts (not the selfish desires, but His own desire for us, which He plants deep within our heart). According to the scriptures, God created His plan and then He created His people to fulfill specific portions of His providence. God Almighty is the author of history and your destiny. After all, as Munroe expresses, God did not create you and then look at you and wonder what he was going to do with you. He created His plan for history and then He created you to fulfill a portion of that plan.
Through a very well laid out and organized book, Dr. Munroe takes the reader step by step in developing their understanding of how God works to reveal His purposes and how we can discover those purposes. Then he suggests specific action steps to further draw out those purposes. An exceptionally pleasant surprise in reading this book on Christian leadership was discovering the section on The Nature of real Prosperity (page 170). Dr. Munroe says, "True prosperity means to be free of worry and fear and reflects a state of contentedness that everything necessary is taken care of (Matthew 6:26-27)." Additionally, he explains that personal prosperity is directly related to your purpose in life. God, he says, "never requires from you what He does not already have in reserve for you." He will provide what you need to accomplish His purposes. Additionally, Dr. Munroe presents a realistic picture of what pursuing God's vision will mean to us. He reminds us of Jesus' exhortation to count the costs, but also encourages us to recognize that the trials and tribulations that most see as hindrances to their vision are actually God's tools for preparing and equipping us for what lies ahead. Finding purpose and pursuing God's vision requires walking out our days in deep faith and reliance upon our Creator. Jesus said, "Apart from me you can do nothing." At one point Jesus' apostles asked Him to, "Increase our faith." Munroe's book, through the application of God's word, has already helped me to understand faith in a much deeper way and begin to apply it to my daily circumstances as well as my future vision. As a Christian Counselor I understand how absolutely essential it is that people have a strong understanding of their purpose...Without purpose there is no hope, no hope leads to depression, depression leads to despair. It's a continual downward spiral from there. If you are struggling with understanding your purpose or simply want help in clarifying your vision (Chapter 17 is an action chapter on How to Write Your Personal Vision Plan) check out Dr. Myles Munroe's book "The Principles and Power of Vision."
